How to manage notifications
Default and per-reminder times, time-zone pinning, pausing, snoozing, and critical alerts.
Everyday Cue's alerts are calm by design — on time, and only when they matter. Here's how to shape them to your day.
Set your default alert time
Pick one time that every reminder uses unless told otherwise.
- Open Settings › Notification Defaults.
- Set Default Time.
New reminders inherit this time automatically.
Override the time on one reminder
Need a particular reminder to fire at a different hour?
- Open the reminder and tap Edit.
- In the schedule's notification settings, set a per-reminder time.
- Tap Save.
A per-reminder time always wins over the default.
Pin a time zone (for travel)
By default, alerts follow your device's time — a 9:00 AM reminder stays 9:00 AM wherever you are. If you'd rather it fire at the same wall-clock moment in one fixed zone (handy for cross-border bills or calls), pin a time zone.
- In Edit, open the Time Zone selector under Notifications.
- Choose Follow device time zone (the default) or a specific zone.
Pinned reminders hold their anchored time even while the app sits closed. For the why, see Time zones, explained.
Pause alerts
- Open the reminder and tap Pause Alerts.
- Choose how long (up to 365 days).
The schedule stays intact; nothing fires until the pause ends or you resume. On resume, Everyday Cue reschedules from the next upcoming occurrence.
Snooze and acknowledge
- Snooze — straight from a delivered notification, postpone it without opening the app.
- Acknowledge — on the dashboard's Alerts tab, tap Acknowledge on a row to mark that specific alert as handled. It moves out of the active list without touching the underlying reminder.
Critical alerts
For the can't-miss reminders, you can mark a reminder critical so its alert breaks through silent mode and Focus. Use it sparingly — it's meant for the truly important. Critical alerts depend on a system entitlement; if it isn't available, the reminder still alerts normally.
Tip: if alerts aren't arriving at all, the cause is usually a permission, Focus, or Low Power setting. Why an alert might not fire walks through each one.
Frequently asked questions
Can I set different alert times for different reminders?
Yes. Per-reminder time overrides the default and always wins. Set a default in Settings › Notification Defaults, then open any individual reminder, tap Edit, and set its own time under the schedule's notification settings. That reminder fires at its own time; everything else uses the default.
What's the difference between snooze and pause?
Snooze postpones a single delivered alert — one notification, pushed forward a short time, without opening the app. Pause stops all future alerts for a reminder for a set period (up to 365 days). The underlying schedule stays intact either way. Pause is for when you genuinely don't want to be reminded for a while; snooze is for "not right now, ask me again soon."
Does pausing a reminder lose my history?
No. Pause only stops future alerts. Your schedule, history, and past completions are all preserved exactly as they were. When the pause ends — or when you tap Resume — Everyday Cue picks up from the next upcoming occurrence. Nothing is erased.
My alert arrived silently — how do I make it sound?
Check iOS Settings › Notifications › Everyday Cue. Make sure Sounds is on and Alert Style is set to Alerts (not Banners). Banners disappear automatically and don't play sound on all devices. Also check that Focus filters or Low Power Mode aren't suppressing the alert — Why an alert might not fire covers each cause step by step.
