The refill timing problem
A 90-day supply sounds like plenty of runway. It isn't, once you account for the gaps.
Mail-order pharmacies typically need 7–10 business days to process and ship. Specialty medications — biologics, injectables, controlled substances — often have stricter refill windows enforced by insurance. Some plans won't fill more than 1–2 days early. Miss the window and you're calling to request an override or paying out of pocket.
The fix is straightforward: know your next refill date well in advance and get a nudge at the right time. Two weeks before a mail-order window opens is a practical target. Earlier for specialty medications when prior authorizations are involved.
No app can automate your insurer's rules. But it can make sure you're never caught off guard by a refill date.
How to track prescriptions in Everyday Cue
1. Create a Medications group. Open the Groups tab and tap +. Name it Medications, Prescriptions, or whatever you'll recognize. Every reminder lives in a group.
2. Add one reminder per prescription. Inside the group, tap + and type the medication name — Metformin 500mg, Atorvastatin, Ozempic pen. Keep the name as specific as you need.
3. Set the repeating interval. Go to Schedules and add a repeating interval. 30 days for monthly fills. 90 days for quarterly supplies. Everyday Cue projects every future refill date from the start date you give it.
4. Add an advance alert. Under the interval, add an alert offset — the number of days before the refill date when you want a notification. Fourteen days is a practical starting point for most mail-order fills. Set two offsets if you want a reminder and a follow-up: 14 days before, then 3 days before.
5. Add a note with pharmacy details. Tap the Notes field and enter whatever you reach for at the pharmacy: phone number, prescription number, prescriber's name, whether a new written script is needed.
6. Optionally attach the label. Everyday Cue supports PDF, JPEG, PNG, and HEIC attachments. A photo of the prescription label or a pharmacy PDF stays with the reminder and opens in iOS Quick Look.
Frequently asked questions
Can I set different intervals for different medications? Yes. Each reminder has its own schedule. A daily medication that refills every 30 days gets one interval. A quarterly injectable gets 90 days. A biologic with a 28-day supply gets 28. There's no shared setting that forces them to match.
What about medications with variable timing? Edit the reminder's start date to reflect the actual fill date. Everyday Cue recalculates all future dates from the new anchor. For medications with no predictable rhythm, use a one-time event instead of a repeating interval and update it after each fill.
Does this work for specialty pharmacy mail-order? Yes. Set the alert offset to match your specialty pharmacy's lead time — 14 to 21 days is common for biologics that need prior authorization renewal. Up to 10 alert offsets per reminder means you can set an early heads-up and a closer follow-up on the same reminder.
Does Everyday Cue connect to my pharmacy? No. There's no pharmacy integration, no health-service connection, and no account of its own. You enter the dates; Everyday Cue reminds you. Data stays on your device unless you opt into iCloud sync via your own Apple ID.
