Archive vs. delete
One is reversible, one is final. Here's when to use each.
Everyday Cue gives you two ways to clear a reminder off your active list. They look similar but mean very different things — so it's worth knowing which is which.
Archive — reversible
Archiving sets a reminder aside without losing it. The reminder:
- Stops firing notifications and stops generating new occurrences.
- Moves to the Archived section inside its group.
- Can be restored any time — restoration brings it back to active with its schedule intact.
Archiving even shows a brief undo toast, so an accidental archive is a one-tap fix. Reach for archive when something is done for now but you might want it back — a seasonal task, a paused subscription.
Delete — permanent
Deleting removes a reminder for good. The reminder, its schedules, its notes, and any attached documents are gone and cannot be recovered. Everyday Cue asks you to confirm first.
There's no undo and no soft-delete by design — this matches how Apple Notes, Reminders, and Photos treat deletion. Reach for delete only when you're sure you'll never need the item again.
Which should I use?
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Hide something but keep the option to bring it back | Archive |
| Tidy the list temporarily | Archive |
| Remove something permanently | Delete |
| Free up everything tied to a reminder for good | Delete |
Tip: if you're unsure, archive. It's always reversible, and you can delete an archived reminder later once you're certain.
Frequently asked questions
Where do archived reminders live? Inside the group they belonged to, in a separate Archived section. They don't appear in the main active list or on the dashboard, but they're always one tap away inside the group.
Does restoring an archived reminder restart its schedule from scratch? No. The schedule picks up from where it left off. If the reminder had future occurrences when you archived it, those dates are recalculated from the original schedule — it doesn't pretend the archival period never happened.
If I delete a reminder, does that also remove its documents from my device? Yes. Attached documents (PDFs, images) stored by Everyday Cue are removed along with the reminder. iCloud copies are not separately retained.
Can I export my data before deleting everything? Yes. Settings › Your Data offers a full JSON export of all reminders, schedules, notes, and metadata. Export first, then delete if you're ready. Everyday Cue also supports a complete data wipe from the same screen.
